Charlotte Nichols MP is looking for a Constituency Assistant to join her busy constituency office to cover a team member’s maternity leave. The post is fixed term for a period of 8 months maternity leave.

This is advertised as a full-time role, but we will consider applications for flexible working. Please note that occasional evening or weekend work may be required.

The successful candidate will work on community engagement, campaigns and local communications including social media and liaising with local media. And will provide administrative support as and when required.

Duties and responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Responding to enquiries from the public by telephone, email, letter and in person and passing on queries to other team members.
  • Assisting with the Member's communication channels – including website, video and social media.
  • Liaising with local groups, councillors, organisations and other stakeholders in the constituency to keep the Member updated on local constituency issues.
  • Planning and promoting activities, events and campaigns in the constituency.
  • Producing regular constituency communications.
  • Monitoring media coverage, liaising with local media and assisting with press releases on constituency matters.
  • Providing overall administrative support to the office and team.
  • Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with the Data Protection Act and GDPR.

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience of organising local events and campaigns.
  • An awareness of sensitivities of working within a political environment.
  • Ability to manage own workload, prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Excellent IT, administrative and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a small team.
  • Understanding of and sympathy with the aims and goals of the Labour Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
