About us

The Local Government Association represents local government in England and Wales. The LGA aims to set the political agenda and have a say in the national media on the issues that matter to council members.

The LGA Liberal Democrat Group, as one of the political group offices at the LGA, represents Liberal Democrat councillors, providing a strong voice within the cross-party LGA and with the Liberal Democrat Party at Westminster, and the wider Liberal Democrat family

The role

The Liberal Democrat Group Office consists of a small team of three who provide wide-ranging and active support to Liberal Democrat councillors.

We:

Support the Liberal Democrats Group Lead Members and councillors on boards and in roles at the LGA

Work to create and maintain strong relations with the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Party and wider Liberal Democrat family

We support Liberal Democrat groups in control and opposition

Arrange events, meetings and seminars for councillors across the country.
Send regular communications to Liberal Democrat councillors.

The requirements

You will be working within a small team of three and will be used to being the first point of contact with enquiries and will be expected to prioritise your workload accordingly.

In the fast paced, ever changing world of local government, we are looking for someone who has a flexible approach to work and can adapt to meet changing work requirements.

It goes without saying that you will have real political sensitivity and the ability to work with discretion and confidentiality. An understanding of local and central government is desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to hit the ground running, be self-motivated and be able to pick stuff up fast. We are looking for a dynamic, self-starter who can provide support both at a political and administrative level, with excellent oral, written, CRM and database skills.

The LGA values diversity and encourages applications from all sections of the community
