This is an exciting new role in the Aylesbury constituency office of Rob Butler MP. You will be responsible for organising Rob's constituency programme, covering visits to a wide range of businesses, schools, charities and other organisations, as well as keeping local people informed of Rob's work through traditional and social media, ranging from parish newsletters to Instagram videos. An important part of your role will be handling casework - helping local people with everything from HS2 compensation claims to benefit enquiries and housing needs.

Essential:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Resilient in the face of challenges
  • Ability to balance competing demands in a fast-paced environment
  • Very well organised with a keen eye for detail
  • Strong IT skills and in particular in Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • Experience working with the public

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of the Aylesbury constituency area
  • Journalistic or PR experience
  • Experience using social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) for an organisation, club or charity
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
  • Full driving licence

Key responsibilities:

  • Arrange and organise visits, ensuring a good balance of locations and organisations across the constituency
  • Prepare briefs for constituency meetings and visits, attend with Rob and take notes
  • Produce social media content
  • Draft press releases and articles (on constituency, non-party-political matters)
  • Monitor local media coverage
  • Contribute to Rob's website content
  • Undertake casework, including policy enquiries
  • Help constituents with queries, such as benefit claims, access to healthcare, visa applications, housing problems and social services issues
  • Deal with daily casework queries from the public by telephone and in writing
  • Manage progress of casework and dealing with third parties, such as Government departments and agencies, local councils, and the NHS
  • Organise, attend and take notes at surgery appointments for constituents
  • Draft responses to constituents

There may occasionally be a requirement to work outside normal working hours

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
