Policy Adviser - Rural Affairs and the Economy

The CLA safeguards the interests of landowners, and those with an economic, social and environmental interest in rural land. Our members own or manage over half the rural land in England and Wales and run more than 250 different types of businesses. We advise members on every aspect of their landownership, and our lobbying successes in key areas give them the security and certainty they need to invest in their land and businesses, which are the heart of rural communities.

We are looking for a Policy Adviser with responsibility for rural affairs and the economy to provide advice, opinion and guidance to our members and contribute to our policy development work in Wales.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a key player in a small and flexible team at a pivotal time for the future of Wales and the UK. The role will offer the opportunity to lead on policy issues that match your experience and interests while also supporting the delivery of all CLA activities in Wales and contributing to the wider team in London and across the English regions.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level and /or experience in working in an environment dealing with rural issues and will demonstrate:

• Knowledge and experience of working with issues facing rural Wales
• An ability to travel around Wales and occasionally England
• A relevant professional qualification is desirable, however, other professional qualifications or equivalent experience will be considered
• Knowledge of the political and policy making processes in Wales and Westminster would be a benefit
• Ability and confidence to communicate at a strategic level with a wide range of policy advisers and decision makers
• An understanding of the evolving devolution settlement for Wales
• Ability to make a compelling case both verbally and in writing.
• Welsh language skills will be considered favourably, but not essential
