Job Details

You will be responsible for the day-to-day running of one of the most active and effective APPGs in Parliament. You will help shape the activities of the group and influence Government HIV policy. You will build the APPG’s strong foundation of members, making contact with new MPs and Peers across all parties. You will identify and push forward policy priorities through parliamentary campaigns. You will maintain excellent relationships across the HIV sector ensuring that the APPG addresses the core concerns of people living with HIV. The role can involve international travel.

Campaigning and Parliamentary Affairs: Use parliamentary mechanisms to raise the profile of HIV in Parliament and to push for specific policy outcomes. Follow parliamentary activity for opportunities to raise issues related to HIV. Organise meetings with Ministers. Organise and run events in Parliament.

Policy and Research: Write policy-focused briefings ahead of events and debates, keeping officers aware of the key issues for the HIV sector. Analyse political and policy developments and, with the officers, agree policy positions. Keep in touch with Whitehall, local government and public health officials and feed into consultations and other policy development. Research quantitative and qualitative data and produce reports on domestic and international HIV issues.

Communications: Ensure ongoing contact with HIV activist, charity and support groups, so that the voice of people living with HIV feeds into our policy positions. Maintain relationships with key partner organisations in the UK and international HIV sectors. Write the APPG newsletter. Maintain social media and online presence.

Media: Build and maintain relationships with health and international development journalists to increase coverage of APPG activities. Organise media briefings and launches.

Administration: You will be responsible for all the administrative functions of the group. Manage the APPG budget and following agreed accounting procedure and record-keeping.

Fundraising: With the support of the officers, you will be responsible for raising the running costs of the APPG. You will be responsible for raising your own salary.

The APPG supports greater diversity within Parliament. We particularly welcome applications for this role from BAME candidates and candidates with lived experience of HIV.
