The National Education Union is a force for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000 teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independent schools and colleges across the UK.

We're looking for a policy specialist with equalities experience relating to the education sector. You will be comfortable with multi-tasking and working in fast-paced policy environments and will bring highly developed team working skills. You will need to demonstrate understanding of the workplace issues facing education workers and education trade unions and you'll need experience in a relevant policy or campaigns role connected to schools and colleges. You will be able to act as a credible representative for Union policy on inequality and have excellent communication skills.

The role focuses on LGBT+ rights, race equality and also other policy development as required to support the NEU's advice for members linked to the ongoing global health pandemic. We are seeking applicants with recent and relevant experience in a policy, research or campaigns environment including policy development and promotion, ideally this will be in a membership organisation or trade union.

They will need to have good analytical skills and ability to understand complex information, and be able to distil this into clear and detailed written communication, including policy advice, statements and consultation responses.

In addition to salary, we offer good conditions including a non-superannuable luncheon allowance currently set at £1035, 35 days’ annual leave plus Christmas closure days and a final salary pension scheme. Salary and benefits are pro-rata for part-time applicants.
