Job Details

Scott Benton MP is looking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant. This is a 5 month fixed-term contract either on a full time or part time basis.
 
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
  • Researching, drafting and sending correspondence on a wide range of policy issues
  • Have working knowledge of relevant legislation and upcoming business
  • Prepare and present research for the purposes of briefing notes for committees and parliamentary questions.
  • Help draft amendments for reports and prepare briefing material
  • Uploading files to Caseworker management system
  • Ensuring cases are dealt with in a sensitive and confidential manner
  • Preparing briefs for meetings
  • Attending stakeholder meetings and taking notes
  • Responding to mass email campaigns
  • Assisting Scott and members of staff with other parliamentary duties, as and when required
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries
  • There may be a requirement to work outside of normal working hours

Desirable skills:

  • A genuine interest in helping constituents
  • High standard of written communication and strong IT skills
  • Personable and able to easily communicate with people
  • Well organised with an ability to effectively manage own workload and deliver to tight time scales
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure
  • Positive attitude and ability to work flexibly and as part of a team
  • Previous use of the Caseworker case management software
  • Previous use of Microsoft Teams and Zoom
  • Knowledge of the Blackpool South constituency

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
