The Communications and Public Affairs division plays a vital role in building and maintaining the College’s brand, image and reputation, sharing the College’s stories, and creating lasting connections for and with its community.

The division has an exciting opportunity for a Public Affairs Assistant to join its team to support the delivery of the College’s public affairs strategy to inform decision-makers and influence policy. You will play a key role in supporting the Public Affairs team to engage with policymakers, civil servants, politicians and other key stakeholders at a local, national and global level, to manage the College’s reputation and promote its strategic developments.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties will include supporting new and existing public affairs initiatives and The Forum – the College’s programme of work to raise the profile and understanding of our world-class academic research with policy-makers -, coordinating events, conducting research and analysis, preparing communications about public affairs policy and strategy, and supporting the activities of the Public Affairs team.

Essential requirements

To perform this role successfully you will:

• Have in-depth experience of conducting research and preparing briefings, communications materials and reports
• Have the ability to convey messages in a clear and compelling way and tailored according to the audience
• Have outstanding interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a tightly knit team
• Have a strong team spirit, able to deliver under pressure and passionate about public affairs

This position will draw on your public affairs and/or policy-based experience gained in a position such as a Public Affairs Assistant, Parliamentary Researcher or Assistant, Policy Assistant, Communications Assistant or Officer, Political Analyst, or similar.
