Job Details
Central Lobby Consultants (CLC) seeks a junior consultant with experience in chemicals and environmental science to join its small busy public affairs team working with a range of UK and European clients.
The role:
- is full time, based in Westminster and will require travel outside the UK. However, under the current Covid-19 situation, work will be done remotely until further notice
- will focus on advising clients on topics related to environmental issues such as waste management but would also require the ability to assess other policy areas
- would suit a recent graduate or a candidate with experience in environmental and/or chemicals policy, looking to develop a career in public affairs
The candidate must demonstrate an interest and understanding of key political issues, including EU/UK environmental and/or chemicals legislation and must be:
- A pro-active self-starter, capable of managing their own workload
- A team player willing to support colleagues
- Enthusiastic, flexible and keen to learn
- Eligible to work in the UK
Job responsibilities
- Monitoring EU/UK policy and legislative developments and reporting these to clients
- Support for CLC's lobbying work, including preparation of consultation responses
- Preparation of briefing notes, meeting agendas, minutes, newsletters and press releases
- Provision of secretariat support for clients e.g. membership subscriptions, maintaining databases, group e-mail lists and websites
- Co-ordinating client meetings and events
Skills/Experience required
- Degree in a relevant science-based subject preferably environmental sciences, chemistry or chemical engineering
- Understanding of EU and UK political processes
- Interest in politics and public affairs and in key topics e.g. circular economy, waste management and climate change
- Excellent spoken and written English, with ability to communicate with people at all levels
- Ability to prepare clear, concise and accurate written material
- Quick learner able to get up to speed with new policy areas and analyse their importance
- Good IT knowledge and experience using MS Office and virtual meeting software
- Excellent time management and ability to work remotely
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Co-ordinating meetings and events
- Using social media and website management
- Second European language, especially German and/or Spanish
