Job Details

The Role

The Royal British Legion and its sister charity, Poppyscotland, form the largest welfare provider in the military charity sector and have a long and proud campaigning history. Together, we work tirelessly to safeguard the Armed Forces Covenant, which ensures that those who serve, have served and their families are not left disadvantaged by the unique nature of military life.

The Legion and Poppyscotland are seeking a talented, committed and enthusiastic public affairs and campaigns professional to shape and deliver our political engagement and campaigning activities in Scotland. In this role, you will monitor and advise senior colleagues in both the Legion and Poppyscotland on developments in the Scottish Parliament and identify opportunities to influence in order to secure positive policy change at the national level. Working closely with PR, Welfare and Public Affairs and Public Policy colleagues, you will also grow our campaign activities at local authority level and aid in the establishment of a network of supporters who are willing to advocate on behalf of the Armed Forces community.

Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of national, devolved and local politics, you will be familiar with both traditional and digital campaigning techniques. You will be a strong team player, have a proven track record of delivering campaign outcomes in Scotland, and possess excellent communication skills and impeccable attention to detail.

Working across two organisations, you will strive to ensure that members of the Armed Forces community can expect a consistent level of statutory support across the UK, whilst supporting policy that reflects the unique needs of serving personnel, veterans and their families resident in Scotland, using our Policy and Campaigns Framework for Scotland to guide your activity.

Please note this role is based at our Edinburgh office, which is located at New Haig House, Logie Green Road, Edinburgh EH7 4HQ, although we support flexible working.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy when we are in receipt of sufficient applications. Should you wish to apply for this post you are advised to complete and submit your application form as soon as possible.
