Job Details

This is a unique opportunity for an early-career public policy person to develop cutting edge data science skills while working on vital issues of research, data and technology policy.

The Royal Statistical Society is looking to hire a Policy Data Analyst to work in our small, dynamic policy team. You will work to support and develop the campaigns of the Society, on subjects ranging from fighting Covid to building the UK’s data infrastructure to promoting statistical literacy, by providing a mixture of conventional policy work and quantitative analysis of important policy issues. The role will involve working alongside the Society’s fellows, who are often world experts in the fields of statistics and data.

Alongside your day-to-day work, you will be enrolled in a Data Science degree apprenticeship, leading to a BSc in Data Science, providing you with cutting-edge skills in data analytics, data visualisation and statistical programming. Over the course of the three-year programme, you will typically spend one day a week on this training and four days a week working on RSS work.

The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years’ experience in public policy or politics roles, and a demonstrable interest in statistics and data. Data science experience is not required. A degree is not required, but Maths A-level or similar experience of mathematics is desirable.
