Job Details
BPAS is a charity which provides high-quality reproductive healthcare on behalf of the NHS to over 100,000 women a year. In 2021, we will launch our not-for-profit fertility service.
Our vision for society is one in which women are able to make their own decisions in matters relating to their own body - from contraception to how to feed their new-born baby, the choice to start a pregnancy as well as to end one.
The BPAS External Affairs Department advocates for women to receive evidence-based information on which to make their reproductive decisions, and we campaign for a future in which all women and their partners are able to fulfil their reproductive goals. We provide expert comment on issues relating to reproductive choice and the way in which sexual and reproductive healthcare services should be provided.
About the Role
The BPAS Press Officer, who will work within the External Affairs Department, will help to deliver high-impact media coverage on our key policy priorities as well as managing day-to-day media inquiries. Creative and forward-thinking, with a “can-do” approach to work demands, you’ll be an excellent communicator with the ability to identify and shape a story. You will relish the challenge of pitching to journalists across digital, print, and broadcast, and find new ways to achieve our goals.
About You
You will need at least 2 years’ experience working in a busy media or public relations team - ideally in the women’s or human rights, or healthcare sectors – and will have built high-quality written and verbal communication skills. Using your understanding of the media landscape, you will be able to create newsworthy stories and grow media interest in an issue.
You will need to be confident to start the role working remotely while COVID-19 restrictions are in place and be able to self-manage a varied workload to tight deadlines.
All applicants must have a strong commitment to the values and aims of BPAS
Closing Date: 24 February 2021
Interview/Start Dates
Working Pattern: 36 hours per week | Monday to Thursday 10am-6pm and Friday 10am-4.30pm
Location: The role will be working remotely whilst COVID restrictions are in place, but will then move back to the Furnival Street office.
Interview Date: Week commencing Monday 1st March 2021
