Climate breakdown presents one of the greatest challenges in the history of humanity, and our seas are a vital element in halting climate change. A critical resource for the UK economy, rich ‘blue carbon’ habitats such as saltmarshes, seagrass meadows and kelp forests store carbon at rates greater than most land-based ecosystems.

You will support us to develop and advocate for a costed UK blue carbon recovery strategy, to support both the UK’s contribution to global targets for climate change mitigation and the recovery of our ocean. You will work across our programmes to develop our policies on marine climate-change mitigation to support the blue carbon strategy.

Key Skills

- A demonstrable understanding and application of environmental economics, including cost-benefit analysis and economic appraisal techniques.
- Able to show your knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation, with a focus on the marine environment.
- A track record of conducting relevant in-depth research and then delivering informed and accessible outputs.
- Comfortable working collaboratively across teams to deliver collective outputs.
- Evidence of producing clear and concise presentations of complex information and new subject areas to political and business audiences.
- Ability to handle a diverse, fast-moving work area, prioritise and meet deadlines.

We are looking for people who demonstrate our values, but who also contribute their own perspectives and experiences to add to our knowledge and our culture.
