The Royal Society’s mission is to recognise, promote and support excellence in science and to encourage the development and use of science for the benefit of humanity. The Society’s Public Affairs team works to identify and deliver opportunities for the Society to engage with decision makers to ensure that decisions are informed by scientific evidence and expertise, and ultimately use science to benefit humanity.

The Public Affairs Adviser is key to delivering this. They will work as part of the Public Affairs team to monitor the political environment, identify opportunities and deliver a packed calendar of briefings, activities and events with policymakers, providing administrative support where necessary. The role will suit someone who is creative, thrives in a fast-paced environment and has excellent organisational skills. They will have the opportunity to gain lots of additional hands-on experience, including supporting delivery of the high-profile annual pairing scheme, which brings together politicians and scientists. They will ensure that the team is prepared to respond to emerging issues and able to evaluate and build on its successes going forward.

The ideal individual will be excited by scientific research and driven to ensure that its findings can improve people’s lives. You may be a science enthusiast or a politics enthusiast, but you are motivated to put your expertise into practice to communicate complex ideas effectively to the people that need to hear them.

Hours: 35 hours per week, able to be flexible and work outside standard office hours as required
