Chi Onwurah, MP for Newcastle Central and Shadow Digital Minister and Shadow Minister for Digital, Science and Technology is looking for a committed and hard-working Parliamentary intern to support her in her Parliamentary duties.
The candidate is required to have significant knowledge of and commitment to Newcastle and its diverse communities. The successful candidate will have strong understanding of the issues important to Newcastle and the North East and share an interest in Chi's policy portfolio and wider political interests. They will also have a good knowledge and understanding and commitment to issues in the science and digital sectors. Good political awareness is essential, as is a decent overall understanding of current political issues. The successful applicant will be able to work independently when required and be a fast learner. Experience in politics is not necessary, but sympathy with the aims and principles of the Labour Party are essential.
The post is full time for six months.
Responsibilities will include:
• Assisting the Parliamentary Researcher
• Carrying out research into policy issues
• Working on policy campaigns
• Monitoring developments in science and digital
• Monitoring local and national issues
• Supporting general office administration and social media duties

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
