Job Details

Lee Anderson, Member of Parliament for Ashfield, is looking for an energetic and capable member of staff to join his constituency office team. This is either a full-time or part-time basis.

The ideal candidate will be intelligent, considerate, and eager to help Lee and his team with the important work they do. You will be interested in politics and current affairs and have a positive, pragmatic attitude about delivering good outcomes for the people of Ashfield and Eastwood.

Knowledge of the local area is favourable but not essential. 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist in the compilation of briefing packs
  • Assist in the updating of social media on request
  • Assist with arrangements for events; this may include: venue research and bookings; compiling and managing guest-lists; liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day event support as required
  • Database management using office software (e.g. Microsoft Office) to handle administrative cases
  • Diary management
  • Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
  • Engage professionally, confidentially and with care and integrity with members of the public, through a variety of methods
  • Exposure to complex cases
  • Handling administrative arrangements for meetings with members of the public/MP surgeries
  • Liaise with suppliers when required regarding office supplies and security
  • Minute taking
  • Open, handle and action email, post and social media enquiries
  • Photocopying, filing, record-keeping and typing correspondence
  • Provide administrative support in relation to MP's expenses scheme via IPSA OnlineRespond to enquiries by telephone, e mail and social media, passing on queries to another team members/MP as appropriate

The successful candidate must:

• Have proven communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to prioritise tasks and work independently.
• Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and be a capable letter writer.
• Be highly organised, punctual and committed.
• Be able to work in a sensitive and confidential manner.
• Be sympathetic to the aims and goals of the Conservative Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interviews will be held on 13 and 14 May, and an appointment may be made before the closing date if a suitable applicant is found. Candidates will also be set a short written task.

Starting date will be a soon as security clearance has been obtained.
