Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Job Details

Gagan Mohindra MP is seeking to recruit a Parliamentary Assistant (30 hours per week) for his busy London office. The contract is initially for 3 months with a potential to extend for the right person.

The successful applicant will have experience of working effectively and professionally in a fast paced Parliamentary office. They will be able to discuss current affairs and politics knowledgably and will demonstrate their ability to interact with colleagues, stakeholders and members of the public. They will have a passion for politics and an interest in transport matters. They will have enthusiasm, ambition and integrity.

The ideal candidate will have first class research skills, as well superb written and oral communication skills. They will be proactive and understand the vital role they play in what will occasionally be a demanding, but always an enjoyable role.

A car owner/driver would be preferred but not essential.

Duties and responsibilities include:

1. Supporting Gagan Mohindra in his Parliamentary and Constituency work.
2. Researching and drafting Questions (Oral / Written / Urgent / Supplementary) and Parliamentary briefings.
3. Supporting PPS efforts for the Department for Transport.
4. Organising appointments and visits.
5. Arranging/attending Parliamentary meetings and surgery appointments. Minute taking and following through action points.
6. Supporting the progression of cases and incumbency work through knowledge of House business (Parliamentary framework).
7. Leading on projects.
8. General office administration and support, record-keeping, the dispatch of correspondence (large mail-outs);
9. Social Media – management of Mail Chimp, maintaining MP website, writing periodicals, monthly newsletter, producing graphics, photo/stills library management, editing and subtitling audio/video for online platforms.
10. Assist with other tasks as required.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
