This is an exciting opportunity at a crucial time for the Royal College of Physicians. We have been at the heart of supporting doctors through the pandemic, we have a key role in helping to reset the NHS, and next year we will embark on a new five year strategy.

You will be central to making sure the impact of the pandemic results in innovations and improvements in healthcare. You will lead and manage a portfolio of high-profile policy development, working closely with senior officers and staff on issues related to workforce, research, integrated care and health inequalities. You will help make sure this work influences government and the NHS.

You will be able to quickly and accurately analyse, interpret and communicate complex information to aid understanding and decision making. You will have previously managed competing views, priorities and interests to achieve your aims. You will value working in partnership and collaboration, actively seeking out and appreciating a diversity of views.

The policy and campaigns team – and the wider communications, policy and research department - is a fast paced, collaborative and innovative environment. We value the opinions and ideas of every member of the team and actively seek their contributions. You will help set our objectives and ensure creative and impactful delivery of the policy development function.

Responsibilities

  • Managing and overseeing your portfolio of policy issues.
  • Keeping up-to-date with developments and helping to position the RCP as a leading stakeholder.
  • Working with public affairs, media and engagement colleagues to raise the profile of the RCP.
  • Building and strengthening new and existing relationships with internal and external stakeholders and alliances.
  • People management and budget management.

Experience

  • You have a strong background in policy development and effective influencing.
  • You can quickly and accurately analyse, interpret and communicate complex information to aid understanding and aid decision making.
  • You can quickly develop positive and effective working relationships with a diverse range of people.
  • You have successfully managed competing views, priorities and interests to achieve your aims.
