Job Details

Alan Mak MP is looking for a hard-working, skilled and media aware Communications Officer to support his work in the Constituency. The successful candidate would take responsibility for local media and communications, as well as organising constituency visits.
The applicant should be highly organised, a strong communicator and someone who is able to work accurately to deadlines and thrives in a fast-paced Parliamentary office. They should have experience and skills in social media, media, communications, graphic production, photography, and video editing.
The successful applicant will be expected to work from the Constituency office in Havant at least 2-3 days per week, but some remote working can be considered.

Main duties include, but are not limited to:

• Drafting press releases on local & national issues, and supporting on engagement with media.
• Creating content for the Member of Parliament’s website and leading on social media content.
• Liaising with the office on local campaigns and projects.
• Production of e-newsletters on constituency issues.
• Monitor media coverage and social media channels.
• Producing video content for social media.
• Organising constituency visits.
• Assisting with constituency correspondence where required.

Candidates should have the following skills and qualities:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Be politically aware, with an interest in current affairs.
• Competency with desktop publishing, video and photo editing software is desired (such as Abode InDesign, Premiere Pro).
• Thorough understanding and experience with various social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
• Experience of working in media, journalism or PR.
• Be sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
