Job Title: Policy & Research Officer - APPG for 'left behind' neighbourhoods

Working For: Local Trust

Location: London

Salary: £25,000 - £32,256 per year

Length of Contract: 12 month fixed term contract

Job Details

Would you like to play a key role in regenerating the most ‘left behind’ neighbourhoods across the country by giving their residents a voice in parliament and by supporting parliamentarians to respond to their concerns?

If so, then this role may be for you!

Local Trust is very pleased to be recruiting for a Policy and Research Officer to support the All Party Parliamentary Group for ‘left behind’ neighbourhoods. The APPG comprises over 70 MPs and Peers who are committed to securing significant and sustained investment in the 225 communities across England identified as ‘left behind’, and to seeking policy change to transform the prospects of the people who live there. This is a new role within the policy team, which provides scope for the right person to make it their own.

We’re looking for a graduate, or someone with a similar level of experience, with at least two years relevant experience, who has a natural curiosity and flair for policy research. Ideally, they would come from a background in economics, political sciences, or social policy, and would have worked for an MP, a think-tank, or a research institute or for a charity in a public affairs or policy role.

Key duties:

  • Research and write APPG policy papers, submissions, articles, letters, blogs, newsletters and to contribute to APPG research proposals and reports, and their dissemination
  • Monitor parliamentary and community sector activities and the policy and research agenda around levelling up, community power and ‘left behind’ areas, and identify opportunities to recruit APPG parliamentary and external members and supporters and advocate on behalf of ‘left behind’ communities
  • Maintain and develop our APPG parliamentary and non-parliamentary connections and build our network of stakeholders on salesforce and project planning on Monday
  • Maintain the APPG website, email, Twitter and Youtube account, and develop our wider communications capacity, including editing and dissemination of APPG recordings and multi-media collateral
  • Research and draft briefings, media pieces and speeches and provide other support needed as required to APPG members
  • Co-ordinate the organisation of APPG evidence sessions, events, activities, and visits, both online and in person

Closing Date: 9 September 2021
