About the job

Reporting to our Senior Policy Officer, the post holder will lead on the development of creative solutions to key policy issues to ensure that Newham is addressing the needs of the borough’s population and is at the forefront of policy innovation.

Key responsibilities include responding to policy developments that affect Newham, keeping abreast of new ways of working across the country and further afield, and turning this knowledge into useful briefings. The post holder will contribute to the articulation of Newham policy to a wider audience, work closely with the Mayor, elected members and senior officers to provide policy advice and support policy development, providing engaging copy for a range of audiences.

About you

We are looking for a talented candidate to take on the role of Policy Officer, focusing on housing policy. It is essential that you can work in a multidisciplinary team, building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the Council. You will be aware of the national and local policy landscape and the context in which local government operates, particularly in terms of housing issues.

You will have an ability to communicate complex information from a range of sources into a briefing for a range of audiences and to understand and use evidence and research within a policy context. You will be a creative thinker who wants to engage with difficult problems and challenge the way we do ‘business as usual’.
