Policy and External Affairs Officer (Young Carers and Young Adult Carers)

We're looking for you to increase and improve Carers Trust's status at the forefront of public policy and other external-facing debate around young carers and young adult carers. You will make sure that the interests of young carers and young adult carers, and the services that help them, are effectively represented to decision-makers (such as parliamentarians, public bodies, senior staff in the education, NHS and local authority sectors), as well as through the media. While you will work across our UK-wide policy and external affairs team, you'll have a particular focus on our policy and influencing work for young carers and young adult carers in Westminster and England.

Are you a strong communicator, both in person and on the page? Whatever you're writing, an engaging briefing for an MP, a "how-to" guide for young carers campaigning, a detailed and evidence-based response to a government policy proposal, or a short and snappy tweet, you'll know how to make this land with those that need to read it. And you'll be just as at home when you're persuading others to make a change that improves the lives of young carers and young adult carers.
Is involving people in your work a key value for you? You'll help young carers and young adult carers be confident and empowered to speak to decision-makers about the real changes needed. When young carers can't be there themselves to say what's needed, your contributions will be based on what they (and the services that help them) say.
You'll be keen to work across Carers Trust and our network so that you know what the arising issues affecting young carers, young adult carers and/or the services that support them are facing, and crucially, what the evidence-based solutions are. You'll find great examples from local services, our projects and programmes, as well as young carers' own stories.
Part of your work will include supporting a new All-Party Parliamentary Group, and our annual Young Carers Action Day, so you'll be excited to jump in
