Job Details

Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system.

We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding, where you can get involved in ground-breaking work. It’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

Interest in hydrogen as part of a net zero energy system is growing rapidly and Ofgem has a vital role to understand both what is needed to facilitate its use and to protect energy consumers’ interests. You’ll be an important member of our Hydrogen Team: policy, engineering, legal and regulatory experts who work across Ofgem (as well as with government and industry). You’ll work to understand, inform and influence thinking, supporting the development of a robust evidence base for policy and regulatory frameworks which could support a potential hydrogen pathway. Representing Ofgem in industry meetings, and building relationships with both internal and external stakeholders (including energy companies, regulators, BEIS and industry bodies), you’ll make evidence-based recommendations to senior decision makers. You will have responsibility for senior management briefing materials, the development of strong relationships with relevant parties, and strategic planning and risk management.

You'll need to demonstrate experience of analysing complex concepts and informing recommendations as part of a policy or strategy development process along with the ability to identify relevant risks and their mitigations, and be highly competent at analysing and manipulating data. A strong communication skillset will mean you’re comfortable in a range of activities – from producing analysis for managers, to representing Ofgem in external meetings and engaging effectively with stakeholders. You’ll bring a proactive, collaborative and flexible attitude, and be unfazed by operating in a fast-changing environment.
