Job Title: Communications Campaigns Organiser

Main Responsibilities

• Assist with developing, and delivering the Union's Strategic Campaigns on key issues affecting members and the sectors in which they work
• Build and develop relationships with parliament and the devolved administrations, as well as links with industry bodies like Maritime UK
• Lead on the Nautilus Champions programme to attract, develop and assist activist union members
• Manage and grow the Union's presence on social media. Take lead in social media community building, strategy and campaigns
• Assist with media and public engagement to promote the Union’s work and position the Union as a key opinion former in the maritime sector
• Write press releases and any other communications as required by Head of Communications
• Contribute to the development of the Union’s Strategic Plan, Departmental and Strategic Campaign Plans
• Provide expertise to other departments as directed by Head of Communications
• Represent Nautilus at external organisations as directed by the Head of Communications in conjunction with other departments

Required Skills and Experience
• Experience in the design and implementation of trade union, third sector, or professional campaigns
• Proven ability to use current digital and other communications channels for campaigning purposes
• Deep-rooted knowledge of and experience in lobbying government, and building effective relationships with MPs and their staff
• Graduate level (or equivalent) education or training and/or significant proven experience in PR, campaigning or journalism
• Strong copywriting and research skills
• Flexibility with team skills to work in multiple team environments
• Ability to exercise a high level of discretion, diplomacy, judgement and initiative
• Interest/experience in trade unions
• Interest/experience of the maritime industry or similar
• Strong organising, project management and business planning skills
• Proactive, forward thinking and able to take responsibility across an organisation efficiently and effectively
• Ability to work effectively with people at all levels including at executive level
