We’re looking for an experienced, enthusiastic communications professional to work closely with communities and the people who support them.
Local Trust was established in 2012 to deliver Big Local, a unique programme that puts residents across the country in control of decisions about their own lives and neighbourhoods.
Funded by an endowment from the National Lottery Community Fund it provides in excess of £1m of long-term funding over 10-15 years to each of 150 local communities, through the Big Local programme.
The senior communications officer will join the team at an exciting time, with an ambitious organisational strategy in place and a unique opportunity to work with communities and amplify their voices. Their role will be to maximise engagement with the people who are making Big Local happen as we relaunch our support offer. This is a key area of our strategy and an organisational priority.
Unlike many organisations, our communications are not driven by fundraising or brand building. Instead our funding model allows us to focus on supporting communities in 150 Big Local areas and sharing learning from the Big Local programme to influence wider change. With growing political interest in levelling-up society, we believe there is an opportunity to shift power and resources to communities. Local Trust is in a unique position to demonstrate the value of this approach and win support for it.
Working closely with the programmes team, the senior communications officer will lead on delivering Local Trust’s communications for the ‘People and Communities’ element of our organisational strategy to 2026.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced and skilled communicator who is brilliant at building internal and external relationships and taking responsibility for an ambitious area of work.
