Job Details

Jack Lopresti MP is looking for a motivated, innovative, and proactive Parliamentary Assistant to support him in carrying out his duties in Westminster.

You will help to produce research and write speeches and questions for debates in the Chamber, Westminster Hall, and other events. You will draft responses to policy queries and campaigns using sources like the PRU and House of Commons Library to produce high-quality written work. You will also support Jack’s communications, alongside the Communications Officer, providing input from the work in the Westminster office. You will also manage Jack’s diary when he is in London.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, press releases, parliamentary questions, debates etc, giving advice on policy issues and undertaking general research as requested.
  • Research and write speeches.
  • Draft responses to policy and campaign enquiries.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate, taking notes and drafting appropriate submissions and amendments for reports.
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc. To include Brexit and local planning outcomes.
  • Project work and management
  • There will be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of normal working hours and occasionally travel to the constituency.
  • Provide generalist admin support.
  • Diary Management.

Interview/Start Dates

Longlisted candidates will be asked to complete a series of pre-employment skills tests online, which will inform decisions on shortlisting for interview.
