Job Details

Sarah Olney, the Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park, is seeking a full-time Parliamentary Assistant to work on a 6-month contract, with potential for continuation pending budgetary considerations.

This position will report directly to the Senior Parliamentary Researcher.

Sarah Olney is the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, International Trade and Transport. She is the co-chair of All Party Parliamentary Group for Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic Business Owners and campaigns on a wide range of local and national issues such as accessible transport, green jobs, and maternal mental health. Sarah Olney also sits on the Public Accounts Committee.

The Assistant will be responsible for handling incoming correspondence, drafting responses to policy casework, managing written and oral question deadlines and undertaking research related to Sarah's campaign priorities. They will assist the Senior Researcher in managing all correspondence with constituents on policy issues, researching and drafting briefings, coordinating campaigns and managing the MP's diary.

Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and writing skills. They must be highly organised with a strong attention to detail. They need to be able to work well under pressure and manage their workload independently to meet short deadlines with high quality work.

Applicants do not need to have a politics degree, but do need to have a keen interest in local and national politics, especially in Sarah Olney's portfolios (BEIS, International Trade and Transport). Candidates with experience working in local or national government or politics, including on a voluntary basis, are particularly welcome.

PLEASE NOTE: The assistant will work on the Parliamentary estate in Westminster. At some times, in line with COVID-19 regulations, this assistant may work either remotely from home or occasionally from the Richmond Park constituency office in Richmond.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

The successful candidate will be asked to start as soon as possible after October 18.
