Job Details

To support editors within the European Council on Foreign Relations in all aspects of the administration, commissioning, planning, and editing of all publications. We are looking for a candidate with excellent writing skills and who would like to gain experience in a fast-paced environment. This is a new position to ECFR, so it is also a great opportunity to make the role your own. You will have the chance to collaborate with teams across the organisation, assisting to create engaging editorial content.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting editorial staff in all activities leading to publication, including acting as an assistant to editors
  • Working with the editors to come up with new and original content on a weekly basis
  • Reviewing written work for accuracy, sense, content, and readability and making suggestions for improvements
  • Choosing supporting material, including graphs, images, and charts, to complement written pieces
  • Liaising with other in-house teams, policy fellows, writers, and the communications team during the publication process
  • Organising projects that have tight deadlines
  • Correcting manuscripts
  • Proofing and editing online content, including for social media
  • Following current events and news to suggest new content
  • Other routine administrative tasks as might be required

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Two years' experience of editorial or publishing work
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English. A second language is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of publishing tools such as MS Office
  • Excellent editing and proofreading with strong attention to detail
  • Great communication abilities and good interpersonal skills
  • Great critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Time management , flexible and capable of multitasking
  • Reliable and cooperative
  • An interest in foreign policy
