Job Title: Parliamentary Researcher

Working For: Barbara Keeley MP (Worsley and Eccles South)

Salary: In line with IPSA payscales

Length of Contract: Short term approx. 6-8 weeks (cover for sick leave)

Job Details

Barbara is looking for short term cover in her Westminster office - the successful candidate will deal with a high profile policy agenda, keep Barbara informed about developments in health & social care, support Barbara’s communications/social media activities.

Responsibilities will include (but not limited to):
• Support Barbara's work in Parliament - provide briefings, speaking notes & advise on policy issues
• Research - primarily on health and social care but also across a wide range of issues
• Prepare and present briefing notes for committees, meetings, parliamentary questions & press releases
• Monitor relevant legislation, including impact on Barbara’s constituency
• Draft speeches, Parliamentary written & oral questions and opinion articles
• Advise and ensure Barbara is fully briefed on potential questions/motions in the House
• Draft policy-related correspondence replies to constituents & others
• Develop & amplify campaigns on social media
• Monitor Parliamentary developments and development across the sector in health and social care
• Liaise effectively with internal & external contacts

The successful candidate will have/be:
• Excellent verbal, research & writing skills reflecting attention to detail
• Knowledge of & interest in policy in health and social care health policy is essential
• Ability to produce high quality briefings, speech drafts and professional advice is essential
• Strong organisational skills & ability to work to tight deadlines
• Ability to spot political campaigning opportunities, devise campaigns & work alongside a range of stakeholders
• Highly motivated with the ability to take initiative and be responsible for own workload
• Experience in managing & using social media
• A supporter of the aims and values of the Labour Party
• Prior experience of working in Parliament and in an MP’s office, political, charitable lobbying or communications is essential

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
