Job Title: Parliamentary Assistant

Working For: Sarah Dines MP (Derbyshire Dales)

Job Details

The role will involve Parliamentary research into a range of policy and constituency issues, maintenance of MP’s website, helping with casework and other admin tasks as required.

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing briefing notes and policy research as required
- Carrying out general admin duties
- Drafting responses to policy and campaign emails
- Keeping MP’s website updated
- Assist with casework as required
- Attend and participate in meetings as appropriate
- Compilation of briefing packs for MPs, take notes of meetings and draft appropriate submissions
- Develop and maintain current knowledge on relevant areas of parliamentary business including Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates etc.
- London Diary Management
- Efficient data and file management to ensure the office complies with the data protection legislation
- Engage confidentially, professionally, with care and integrity with members of the public, through telephone enquiries, social media, email, and face to face
- Monitor local, regional, and national media coverage and brief the MP on relevant issues
- Monitor social media activity and report any relevant trends to the Office Manager/MP
- Project Work
- Working with the MP to manage IPSA reporting

Requirements:
- Must have good organisational skills and able to manage a busy workload
- Team player with a flexible approach; enthusiastic and reliable
- High attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team
- Previous Parliamentary experience preferred
- Previous experience with casework management database, such as Caseworker preferred
- IT knowledge, including Microsoft office
- Experience of the IPSA reporting system preferred

Candidates should also be adaptable and flexible and be prepared to get involved in a wide range of issues. An interest in politics and sympathy with the values and aims of the Conservative Party are also desirable.
