Job Details

Are you excited by a unique opportunity to drive forward Transport for Greater Manchester’s ambitious policy agenda, to support the delivery of a sustainable, healthy and efficient transport network that delivers the connectivity Greater Manchester needs?

We are seeking a Head of Policy to lead a team of Policy and Public Affairs professionals in the development and coordination of TfGM's transport policy relationships and lead on transport policy development, positioning Greater Manchester at the forefront of the transport policy agenda to secure its investment and reform objectives.

The transport challenges that city regions like Greater Manchester face are significant: we need to promote travel change in the interests of driving down the environmental impact of travel, supporting further economic renewal and ensuring an equitable and accessible transport system that provides excellent connectivity for all of our communities.

We are uniquely placed to move forward on the transformation that we need. The Mayor and GMCA have set a bold and ambitious agenda through the Bee Network vision and their commitment to the reform of our bus system. And we have secured funding through City Region Sustainable Transport Fund to carry forward our solid track record of delivery. But there remains much to do if we are to support Greater Manchester’s ambitions to secure a net zero carbon future that supports opportunity for all its residents and businesses.

We need someone with intellect, energy and a proven track record in developing strong relationships with key partners, including Government Departments, national transport agencies, and with key national policy development networks to help drive our transport policy agenda. Equally, we will require candidates to demonstrate how they work within established teams, to deliver effective working relationships for TfGM with key Greater Manchester partners, including GMCA, Districts and business and public sector networks.

You will bring your wide ranging knowledge of contemporary transport and urban policy and substantial experience in managing policy intelligence, plus demonstrable experience of leading productive team working on specific policy issues and of leading multi-disciplinary policy development activities.
