The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. It works to promote public confidence in the democratic process and to ensure its integrity.

The role
We are looking for a proactive and enthusiastic policy professional to contribute to the Electoral Commission’s response to an exciting range of policy challenges.

As a Policy Adviser you will contribute to all areas of the Commission’s policy work, including significant new elections legislation, electoral registration and regulation. You will scrutinise policy and legislation proposed by Governments and Parliaments; help develop responses to consultations on important new secondary legislation; and become expert in a number of key electoral policy areas, including electoral registration and voter ID.

The successful candidate
You will work closely with the Policy Team, as well as colleagues in operational, devolved and English regional teams, as well as press, public affairs and research, ensuring that the Commission’s policy work is informed by operational experience, robust evidence and communicated effectively.

You will have a strong track record of working in policy development and of working with government policy and legislative processes. You will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to work in an environment where close attention to detail and accuracy are critical.
