Context

The British Tourist Authority (BTA) is the national tourism agency and an accredited non-departmental public body funded by the Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and trades under the name of VisitBritain/VisitEngland (VB/VE).

The British Tourist Authority (BTA) is a global organisation with 300+ people based in 19 different countries. VB/VE plays a unique role in building England’s tourism product, raising Britain’s profile worldwide, increasing the volume and value of tourism exports and developing Britain’s visitor economy.

The Tourism Affairs team serves to deliver on the BTA’s statutory duty to advise Government on tourism policy. The team works to enhance the status of the tourism sector amongst political stakeholders, manages the relationship with the organisation’s sponsor department (DCMS), and provides policy advice on visitor economy related issues.

The position sits within the Strategy and Communications division, alongside research, evaluation, media and communications.

Main purpose of the role

This role will help to support the policy work of the organisation. Working in a small team, the successful candidate will undertake research, help develop policy initiatives and work across a variety of different stakeholder groups, both from the tourism industry and the political world to inform the work of the organisation. The role also aids in the management of political relationships for the organisation, working closely with civil servants and MPs to promote the political status of tourism policy. The role holder will also be responsible for engaging Public Diplomacy Partners in the UK to provide to keep our overseas team informed about opportunities and risks.
