How you'll make a difference

As a Policy Officer you will play a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of the partnership and developing exciting and high-profile workstreams. You will build the partnership’s profile and reputation with a wide range of Government, public and business stakeholders. This will include leading delivery of robust research, policy advice and evidence synthesis to unlock green, inclusive growth across our area.

The Western Gateway Partnership is a pan-regional economic ‘powerhouse’ spanning Western England and South Wales. It is Chaired by an Independent Business Representative (Katherine Bennett CBE).

This is a limited term contract due to end 1 March 2024.

What will you be doing?

  • You will lead on policy and public affairs activities, with a particular focus on the Partnership’s rapidly-emerging Net Zero workstream.
  • You will work closely with the Director of the Western Gateway and the Senior Policy & Public Affairs Manager to develop strong and collaborative relationships with partner organisations and stakeholders.
  • You will undertake research and analysis to inform programme and project development by commissioning independent research and horizon scanning activities.
  • You will prepare briefing notes, presentations, speaking notes for Western Gateway Board Members, Business leaders and stakeholders.
  • You will deliver research, and policy activities and ensure consistency of messaging.
  • You will scope project work to support the delivery of the Western Gateway’s priorities.

What we need from you?

  • You will have a relevant professional or equivalent degree level qualification or have equivalent relevant experience of working in a policy environment and with a diverse range of partners and stakeholders.
  • You will have experience of collaborative working, research, evidence synthesis and contribution to policy formation or change.
  • You will have excellent written and oral communication skills to include report writing.
  • You will hold project management skills, and an ability to drive forward parallel activities.
  • You will have a good level of general IT skills.
