Job Details

Sajid Javid MP is looking for an enthusiastic, organised and hard-working person to join his team for a 6-month parliamentary internship. This could be full-time or part-time if the right candidate is currently studying or has an equivalent commitment.

This role will be based in Sajid’s office in the House of Commons. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to start a career working in politics and develop skills across a range of responsibilities within a busy office.

This position will engage with all streams of work within the office, including constituency casework, policy, research, media monitoring, events planning and diary management.

Essential Criteria

  • A good knowledge of current affairs and policy issues
  • Motivated, pro-active, willing to learn new skills and take on new challenges
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to engage confidentially with a broad range of people at all levels of seniority
  • An ability to engage with constituents in an understanding, kind, and compassionate manner
  • An ability to work swiftly and independently, with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent IT skills with experience using Microsoft Office
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting Sajid with drafting policy responses to constituents
• Attending meetings with and on behalf of Sajid
• Assisting with diary management and events planning
• Managing some constituency casework
• Monitoring local media coverage
• Keeping up to date with parliamentary business
• Supporting the running of Sajid's local campaigns
• Undertaking research and drafting briefings as required on subjects relevant to Sajid's constituency and policy interests
• Ensuring professional records are kept adhering to GDPR requirements and respecting confidentiality at all times

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Start Date = the beginning of May
