Job Title: Just Transition Project Coordinator

Working For: a client of North of Tyne Combined Authority

Location: North of Tyne Combined Authority area

Salary: £33,600 pro-rata

Length of Contract: 16 months

Job Details

Job purpose:

You will lead on consulting high-carbon workers and employers within the
North of Tyne Combined Authority (NTCA) area who are at risk of losing their jobs due to the
climate transition, so as to ensure that an inclusive and just transition is realised. You will
assist the Project Lead and Researcher on designing these consultations to identify the
barriers preventing high-carbon workers and employers from transitioning into low-carbon
jobs or becoming low-carbon employers. The aim of workforce consultation overall is to coproduce a package of solutions and policy proposals for an inclusive and just transition for
those potentially at risk of redundancy, or those who have missed out on employment
opportunities in the past in the NTCA area, for implementation by the NTCA where possible.

The project:

The project focuses on workers and industries threatened by the climate transition in the
areas under the remit of the NTCA. The project aims to identify these workers and
industries, consult them on their wishes and needs, and then identify the skills barriers and
other potential obstacles preventing them from getting low-carbon jobs or becoming low-carbon employers. The project has been running since August 2021 and initial research has
already been undertaken by EDP. The focus of the Just Transition Coordinator role will be
on consulting workers and employers directly via interviews, workshops and surveys. They
will share responsibility for identifying people and groups to contact and lead on outreach
and engagement. The final goal of the two-year project is to develop a report on the findings. This will be based on existing literature and the original research carried out as part of the project.

The role:
You will primarily be working alongside two other members of staff: the EDP Project Lead
and Researcher. You will lead on identifying contacts and carrying out the worker and
employer on the ground research, as well as assisting in designing the consultation
methods. The project will require significant direction from you when you join and based on
your research as it develops. EDP is a small team and your input will be essential to shaping
the direction of the project throughout.
