Job Details

For over 70 years Marie Curie has worked to deliver a better end of life experience for everyone.  A key part of that mission means building our research evidence base and using this to campaign for the changes needed from national and local decisionmakers in order to improve those experiences.

The Policy and Research Directorate at Marie Curie brings together our policy, public affairs, and research work to maximise impact. Our work is focussed on addressing four key themes key to delivering the best possible end of life experience for all - physical and mental health and wellbeing; financial security; relationships, carers and bereavement; and inequity in end of life experience.

The Local Public Affairs Manager is a new role in the directorate, and will manage our work engaging public policy decisionmakers in localities across England, and also provide support for local and regional engagement across the devolved UK nations.  The role will work to develop relationships with Local Authorities, local MPs and other key decisionmakers, and to work with them to improve end of life experience for everyone across their locality.

The post holder will be part of the Policy and Public Affairs, England team and will also work closely with colleagues in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland and with colleagues across the charity.

The ideal candidate will have a strong grounding in public affairs, and a passion for social justice, and challenging inequalities in care and experience is crucial. Understanding of how health and social care policy is set at a local and regional level is important to the role.

We know that the UK has profound inequalities in end of life care.  Challenging these are at the heart of our work, and to do that as effectively as we can, we need a diverse team. We are inclusive and welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, class, religion, disability, nationality, or political affiliation.
