Would you like the chance to become part of the dynamic Consular Information Unit (CIU) team that manages the information function for the entire Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy, London? Do you think you have what it takes to join this team in providing quick and accurate information to the CIU's myriad customers in a professional, courteous, tactful manner? If so, we want you! Members of Parliament - on all consular matters relating to visa requirements for foreign nationals travelling to the United States, and passport and citizenship services for U.S. citizens. As such, we need someone who possesses exceptional drafting skills, the ability to distil complex processes into concise replies, good judgement, and creative ideas for reaching the Embassy's customers. You will be required to answer enquires in a time-sensitive situation, either by pre-written paragraphs or original drafts. As many of your responses will involve interpreting complex U.S. immigration and citizenship laws and regulations, you will be given on-the-job training.
EXPERIENCE: Progressively responsible experience in work involving drafting papers, memoranda and/or correspondence for a lay audience. Additional substantial experience of working in a public-facing customer service or information function.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The ability to draft in a clear, concise and grammatically correct manner is paramount, as the role requires an ability to explain or translate complex regulations into meaningful instructions suitable for a lay audience. The Incumbent must possess a high degree of analytical ability good attention to detail and an ability to work accurately. The Incumbent interfaces directly with the public so s/he require excellent customer care and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work as part of a team, and prioritize own workload and focus in the midst of a busy open-plan office and meet deadlines. Must know when to seek assistance or guidance or refer a case to a supervisor.
