Job Title: Constituency Intern

Working For: Victoria Prentis MP (North Oxfordshire)

Location: Constituency based, with remote working

Salary: National Living Wage (£8.91 per hour) plus reasonable expenses (up to 25 hours per week)

Length of Contract: 3 month initial FTC with possibility to extend.

Job Details

This is an entry level, fixed term internship for three months, and would suit a recent school leaver or a person looking to begin their career working for an MP. Ideally Victoria would like the successful applicant to reside in the constituency and have a strong working knowledge of local issues. This part time role is advertised for 2-3 days a week which is expected to be up to 25 hours a week, to be agreed upon appointment with the right candidate. The precise days and hours of work can be mutually agreed, and there may be some ongoing flexibility for the role, once appointed.

Job details:

• Support Victoria’s Policy Assistant in responding to standard queries from constituents and key local personnel by telephone, email, or letter.
• Draft responses to constituents.
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation and strict parliamentary protocols.
• Assist the team with other administrative tasks where needed, such as recording constituent correspondence, processing campaign emails or survey responses.
• Represent the MP using written communication, operating with the highest level of professionalism, sensitivity, and discretion at all times.
• Produce a digital constituency campaign and deliver this supported by other team members.
• Support Victoria’s Communications Officer after media training with local press releases and social media engagement.

The successful candidate will have the following attributes and skills:

• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise and manage a busy workload
• Experience of customer service or a public facing environment
• Posses strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently, self-motivated and disciplined
• Competent with IT systems, including word and excel. (Training will be provided for caseworker database)
• A keen interest in local politics and current affairs
• Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party
• Local knowledge of North Oxfordshire.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interviews will be held via Teams on Friday 28th of January and the successful candidate will be required to start in Victoria's team as soon as possible after this date.
