CAMRA Communications is run by a small and dedicated team who are responsible for a busy press office, internal communications to members (which includes an online digital news service and quarterly print magazine), CAMRA’s digital platforms and social media channels. The Communications Assistant will be expected to support team members, CAMRA staff and volunteers across each of these areas. The role is therefore ideal for someone who is looking for a good foundation in Communications and PR.

This role will be predominantly performed remotely; however, attendance at some events, festivals, award presentations, meetings etc will be required periodically (COVID-permitting). These may take place anywhere across the UK, but the office headquarters is based in St Albans, England.

Key Responsibilities

Press Office

  • Support the smooth running of a busy press office, which will predominantly consist of handling and directing inbound press enquiries
  • Manage media/interview schedule for CAMRA spokespeople
  • Help to draft, proofread and distribute press releases to targeted journalists
  • Oversee the media monitoring and reporting processes for the team
  • Provide general administrative support as required
  • Carry out picture research and help maintain CAMRA’s digital assets

Internal Communications

  • Respond to requests for information or support from volunteer press officers and members
  • Compile press coverage summaries and distributing to stakeholders
  • Produce updates and briefings for volunteer press officers and senior campaign members
  • Proofread and manage digital content for the What’s Brewing digital newspaper
  • Support the printed production of BEER magazine
  • Support the administration and editing requirements for the CAMRA podcast Pubs. Pints. People.

Digital & Social Platforms

  • Draft and deliver social media content under the direction and guidance of the Communications Officer
  • Oversee the community management on all social media pages
  • Help manage the CAMRA national website and What’s Brewing platform

Person Specification:

  • A degree or volunteer/work experience in communications, media, PR & journalism or similar
  • Experience of working with volunteers
  • Knowledge and interest of the pub and beer sector
