Working For: The Physiological Society

Location: London

Salary: £30,000 pa

Length of Contract: 2 years

Job Details

The Physiological Society is growing its policy team and there is an opportunity to join as a Policy Officer. Working as a part of a small team and reporting to our Policy Manager, the Policy Officer will play an important role in shaping science policy in the UK and Republic of Ireland. Through an impactful and ambitious programme of proactive projects and responsive policy initiatives, our policy team seeks to work towards a position where physiology is a well-funded, high-profile discipline with physiologists able to operate in a supportive policy landscape. The policy landscape affecting physiology and physiologists include issues related to research funding and the research ecosystem. The Policy Officer is responsible for identifying and acting on issues facing individuals working within physiology and the life sciences. We support physiologists to play a leading role in informing the public policy response of government to global health challenges. Our policy work seeks to showcase why physiology is the cornerstone of the scientific response to global public health challenges such as the ageing society and climate change. This requires working with other societies and like-minded organisations with complementary objectives. The role is fixed term for 2 years and based at our Head Office in Farringdon (we are currently following Government advice to work for home and anticipate a return to the office on the basis of approximately 2 days/week when allowed). We are committed to actively promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity. To this end we would welcome applications from individuals from underrepresented groups, including minoritised communities and applicants with a disability, to better reflect the community we support and help broaden our perspectives.
