As the Councils Electoral Services Manager you will be responsible for the electoral events in the county which will include successfully delivering the County Council, Parish, Parliamentary, Police & Crime Commissioner elections and Referenda.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is experienced in electoral events, and is highly motivated and enthusiastic to work for one of the largest councils in the country in successfully delivering its electoral events.

If you have the AEA qualification, have wide ranging experience of dealing with election planning, canvass, electoral registration, managing people and budgets, and can lead and co-ordinate the work of a team this may be the post for you.

Durham County Council is one of the largest councils in the county. It has an electorate currently of 391,597, has 477 polling districts and 434 polling stations. The Council offer annul leave of 26 days to 31 days depending on length of service, family friendly policies, and this post attracts a flexible leave policy.

We are looking for someone with far ranging experience of dealing with election planning, canvass, electoral registration, managing people and budgets, and has the knowledge, expertise and innovation to provide for a modern service. The postholder must be able to develop relationships across the council and with external partners, have excellent communication skills, and is proactive in community engagement to increase levels of voter registration and participation in elections.

The successful candidate will manage a well-established Electoral Services Team, ensuring the delivery of high quality, modern, and professional electoral services for the Council.

You must have the AEA qualification, significant knowledge of the practices and legal requirements relating to Electoral Registration and Elections, vast experience in dealing with all electoral/election events and have the drive and enthusiasm to deliver these successfully.

The nature of the role requires, particularly at election time, the ability to work under pressure and handle conflicting demands.
