Job Details

We are looking for a self-motivated and confident communicator with excellent written and interpersonal skills to join Bim Afolami's team in his busy constituency office in Harpenden, Hertfordshire. This is a full time, constituency-based role.

The responsibilities of the role include:

- Managing casework from constituents across topics ranging from immigration to local infrastructure

- Assist surgeries and local meetings.

- Liaise with local stakeholders to resolve local issues and maintain positive professional networks.

- Deal with standard queries, as well as assisting on more complex cases from members of the public.

- Research and information gathering to assist with resolving cases The ideal candidate will have robust knowledge of the local area and experience of communicating with members of the public.

The candidate will have excellent administrative and analytical skills with the ability to handle and prioritise high volumes of work. The candidate will also need to ensure that cases are dealt with in a sensitive, compassionate and confidential manner. This is a fantastic opportunity to work for a busy MP and undertake a range of extremely interesting and insightful work. This role will provide someone with extensive exposure to a wide range of skills and will equip them with a strong understanding of local government, public policy and community networks.

Once the appointment has been confirmed, the candidate will need to undergo security clearance. The salary will be in line with IPSA pay bands for Caseworker salaries. This is currently from £21,529 up to £31,705 per annum, depending on experience.

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

Interview/Start Dates

Interviews will be conducted in the week commencing 1st February 2022. The start date will be in early February or as soon as the successful candidate is able to begin.
