Working For: CIOB

Location: Home Based, North of England

Salary: £28,000 per annum + Benefits

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

As our Policy & Public Affairs Officer for the North of England, you will undertake research and analysis of the constructor sector and lead the development of the Institute’s policy positions in our priority areas in the North of England. You will also contribute to wider CIOB policy development.

Reporting to the Policy and Public Affairs Manager, you will ensure that the Institute is well positioned within the UK Government, Parliament, and the wider policy community, and help influence regulation and policy development in construction. You will work across the Institute - with its membership and external stakeholders including Government(s), industry and other professional bodies - to manage the CIOB’s policy profile and drive its reputation and engagement opportunities, with an emphasis on the North of England.

About You

This role would suit someone who has demonstrable experience in a policy or public affairs role, that has consistently demanded thought-leadership, strategic analysis, writing, research, presentation and communication skills. Enthusiastic and flexible with strong interpersonal skills, you will have a lateral mindset, initiative, and the ability to work independently. You’ll be responsible for leading on one of CIOB’s priority policy areas and so we’d be keen for you to have specialist expertise, experience or interest in education and skills and/or sustainability policy.

We would like you to have knowledge of UK Government and Parliamentary processes, along with the ability to assess and make recommendations for policy development. You will understand the public interest position of a professional body and how this is distinct from traditional policy making. You will also demonstrate knowledge of the construction industry and the built environment more generally. Experience of working in, or alongside UK Parliamentarians and relevant UK Government departments is also essential.

Membership of a relevant professional body is desirable.
