The European Movement UK is a cross-party organisation working to benefit the UK through a stronger trade and cultural relationship with the EU. We are powered by more than 14,000 members, some 180,000 supporters, 100+ local groups, and our strong networks in Westminster and communities throughout the UK.

Founded in 1949, we are the UK's largest and oldest pro-European Network.

At this pivotal time we are looking for a Head of Grassroots engagement to develop and deliver our field strategy, establish mechanisms for effective communication between our team and local activists, and to develop a culture that creates a rewarding experience for local groups and activists across the UK as our movement continues to expand.

Reporting to the CEO, the role is responsible for developing and overseeing an engagement strategy to:

• put local groups and activists at the heart of delivering EM’s strategy to campaign step by step to rejoin the European Union
• grow and increase the diversity of the local group network, and encourage local supporters to become members of EM, in line with our wider strategic objective of growing the movement
• Improve the European Movement’s ‘offer’ to local group members and volunteers, and build the mechanisms to increase democratic participation in the running of the EM.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our small but expanding team and to lead positive change within a UK-wide network of grassroots activists.

A campaigner at heart, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

• A record of achievement in a leadership role within an organisation of comparable size, scope and complexity
• Experience of managing and supporting local groups and/or volunteers
• A track record of successful local engagement and mobilisation in support of an organisation’s national/central objectives
• Track record of delivering impressive member and/or supporter growth at a local or community level
• Knowledge and understanding of the political and regulatory landscape as it relates to campaigning, including data protection, election campaigning rules etc, and how to apply this in the role

They will have sound political judgement, be an effective leader, be skilled at working in a cross-party environment and be committed to pro-European values.
