Working For: Joseph Rowntree Foundation

Location: London / York / Flexible

Salary: £75,000

Length of Contract: Permanent

Job Details

This new role will help us realise a new ambition. As an endowed foundation, JRF is uniquely placed to help create the data, tools and capability to unearth and analyse what’s going on in relation to poverty across society, and inform thinking and action on what to do about it. This could be about building up data that show the big picture and long term trends, or shedding light on emerging issues, or ‘leading indicators’ of poverty.

You’ll work closely with our Director of Evidence & Policy, leading and building a team of analysts to generate original insight to support arguments for change. You'll lead our ambition to invest in new forms of insight ‘infrastructure’ that enable JRF and others to better understand what’s going on in relation to poverty – and what to do about it. We want to create new, generous resources for the long term, including data, tools, software and relationships. There's a crucial place for human stories too – and we want you to be as interested in capturing the telling anecdote as you are in building the big data picture.

Though we’re open-minded about your profile, must-haves include experience of leading the production of original and creative insight on key public policy issues; familiarity with a range of tools and methods, including a strong grasp of developments in data science; and the ideas and know-how to realise our vision to invest in and nurture insight ‘infrastructure’. You'll have  managed a team of analysts and will also be skilled and confident at working with stakeholders and partners on collaborative projects. Strong candidates will bring inveterate curiosity and a powerful commitment to ending poverty and promoting social justice. In return, we offer the priceless advantage of working in a well-resourced, highly-regarded, influential organisation with the capacity to innovate and invest in a uniquely farsighted way.

Applications are welcome from all, regardless of age, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, religion or belief, race, sex, sexual orientation, trans status or social economic background. We recognise that we cannot truly be an anti-poverty organisation unless we are also an anti-racist organisation, and we positively encourage applications from people with experience of living in poverty.
