Job Details

The Centre for Health and the Public Interest (CHPI) is an independent research thinktank which promotes the public interest in health and social care policy.

We are creating an important new role to help promote our research, manage our media outputs and deliver regular communications with our existing stakeholders and supporters.

The CHPI frequently receives coverage on both broadcast and print media and we have well developed networks among academics, patient groups and health and care professionals which we would like to build upon.

Job Description

• Manage the CHPI’s communications through its email list, social media and website, including drafting written content and producing or procuring multimedia assets
• Identify media and speaking opportunities for the CHPI
• Help develop the CHPI’s networks amongst key stakeholders (including patients, health and care professionals, trade unions, campaign groups, policy makers and the media).
• Organise around 3 events each year to promote the work of the CHPI
• Assist with fundraising initiatives

Person specification

We are looking for someone with the following skills and experience:
• Producing and scheduling communications through a range of digital channels — including website, email lists and social media
• Developing a strategic approach to communicating with different audiences — ranging from experts to members of the public
• Handling media inquiries
• Developing effective working relationships with journalists, politicians, and wider stakeholders such as trade unions and campaign groups.
• A commitment to the founding principles of the NHS and the importance of the public interest in health and social care policy making.
• Some knowledge of health and social care policy is desirable but not essential

This role would suit someone who has previously had experience working at a senior level within a communications or policy team and is looking for a part time role to fit around their family, caring responsibilities, health issues or other personal circumstances, or someone who is keen to develop their experience of communications work within a small organisation with a growing media profile.

We would strongly encourage people from BAME backgrounds to apply and are very willing to discuss flexible working arrangements.

Closing Date: 21 March 2022
