Job Details

Munira Wilson MP is looking for a highly motivated individual, with bags of initiative and intellectual curiosity to become her full time Parliamentary Assistant, based in her Westminster office. You must be organised, capable of dealing with multiple competing priorities and able to work well as part of a disparate wider team. Outstanding written communication skills and attention to detail are an absolute must, as is the ability and willingness to learn quickly and work under pressure. Knowledge of parliamentary processes and digital communications experience would be helpful.

The successful candidate will support Munira in her day-to-day parliamentary work to ensure that Twickenham’s interests are championed in Westminster through parliamentary questions, debates, ministerial letters and other mechanisms. You will also be part of a small team drafting responses to letters and emails from constituents on a wide range of policy issues, as well as ensuring proactive communication of Munira’s activity in Parliament to interested constituents, as appropriate.

You will be expected to draft and post social media and website content promoting Munira’s parliamentary activity.

The successful candidate will work closely with an intern who will support them in their work.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting parliamentary questions, EDMs, briefings for debates and ministerial letters
  • Responding to emails from constituents on national policy issues
  • Video editing and creating and sharing posts on social media
  • Retaining records and information confidentially and in line with GDPR
  • Maintaining Munira’s communication channels – including website and social media
  • Providing overall administrative support to Munira in Westminster

  • Excellent time management skills, able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong organisation skills, able to manage own workload and prioritise well
  • Ability to work effectively in a small and disparate team
  • Understanding of parliamentary processes and how these can be used to champion local issues and concerns
  • Sympathetic to the aims, values and policies of the Liberal Democrats

Upon appointment you will be required to apply for security clearance, undertaken by the Security Vetting and Pass Office. See Members’ Staff Security Clearance page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
