Job Details

Marco Longhi MP is looking for a highly motivated individual to support his busy Dudley Office.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, with an interest in policy, an interest in how MPs can serve their constituents, and an ability to respond to a broad range of constituent enquires at pace.

The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil the following tasks:

Handle correspondence from constituents, drafting responses and providing advice and support to constituents on a variety of issues (housing, immigration, health and social care, etc.) through liaison with national and local government agencies, as well as other relevant organisations. T

To show excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in interacting with people at all levels and in a variety of circumstances. Able to deal with issues in a confidential manner and able to work effectively in a small team.

Manage own caseload and progress of casework, ensuring all cases are dealt with in a sensitive, confidential and timely manner and accurate records are kept in adherence to the principles of the Data Protection Act and GDPR.

To spot opportunities for the Member of Parliament to be best placed to serve his constituents and assist with the organising of such opportunities.

Research and draft responses or respond to constituents on any issues raised on behalf of the Member.

Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation/guidelines as appropriate in dealing with casework.

Liaise with relevant groups within the constituency and communicate appropriately with internal and external contacts.

To write press releases, handle campaign letters, and liaise with other MP offices, external organisations, and government departments.

To assist in the compilation of briefing packs and writing speeches.

Assist with arrangements for events; this may include: venue research and bookings; managing invitations and guest-lists, liaising with suppliers; and providing on-the-day support as required.

Diary Management and ensuring that opportunities are identified for the MP.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
