Job Details

The International Campaigns Adviser/s we are currently recruiting will help fulfil our strategy, as it relates to campaigning to increase Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) support for persecuted humanists.

The work we do helping non-religious people at risk abroad is some of the most important. Humanists at risk can face the death penalty for blasphemy and apostasy in many countries, while in others they have been the victims of extrajudicial violence – even murder. But international pressure can make a huge difference in preventing these outcomes, as well as getting countries to change their laws. That’s where you come in.

Clearly, this is a hugely important role that can make a real difference in people’s lives. It’s also a great opportunity to network with some important stakeholders and work on a really interesting global policy issue. The successful candidate/s will have excellent writing skills. You will have a good working knowledge of UK foreign policy, with awareness of freedom of religion or belief issues a plus. Or, alternatively, expertise in particular countries of concern would be very welcome. You will ideally be familiar with how to work with civil servants and civil society organisations. You’ll be a good team player. You are committed to the campaigning aims of Humanists UK, as they relate to Humanists at risk abroad.

There are no fixed hours for this position, but ideally we’d like the successful candidate/s to volunteer a few hours of their time a week. There will be specific meetings we’d hope the successful candidate would be able to attend, during standard working hours.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation.
